Firmware images are now included in the Flirc GUI app starting with version 1.0.5. You can use this new feature to update your device to the latest release, or upload an image should the device be 'stuck in bootloader'.
Follow these simple instructions.
Head over to the downloads section of the website and make sure you have at least v1.0.5.
Open up the GUI and head over to the advanced menu.

A window should pop-up, which looks like below. Click on the button that says: "Force FW Update"

You will be prompted with a message to confirm. This window will tell you your current firmware version, and the one which is currently available. Because the firmware images change timings, there is a possibility you will have to re-learn keys. There is unfortunately no way to migrate these changes.
If you are using Windows, and if for any reason this fails or there appears to be no device in the GUI but "flirc" or "bootloader" is present in the device manager, it may be possible to fix this by re-installing the GUI which will also install the driver again. If that does not fix the 'device disconnected' message, then try the driver trouble shooting section of this website.

Hello. I have 3 Flircs I need to update. RC3 detects the devices, and shows v255.12 as the firmware version for all. RC4 and above fails to detect any of them. I assume I need the .bin file, and flash using RC3?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
How long should the upgrade take? the GUI It has been saying "Firmware being upgraded, please wait..." for about 30 minutes now. I'm on Win 7 x64.
The upgrade process has been saying "Firmware being upgraded, please wait...". It stayed all night with no progress. At the title bar was the message not responding. After that I cannot repeat the upgrade procedure because of the status DISCONNETED for the device. Then, I repeated the upgrade procedure with the second device, and the same problem has happened. Now I end up with two useless devices. I use Win 7 x32, Flirc v.133. How to get back lost devices?
Continuing to my last comment of upgrade problem, I had Firmware v1.2 before I started upgrading.
Wow just got my FLIRC and the built in profile for FireTV didn't support a few of the keys(home, return, menu). Using FLIRC GUI v1.3.4 I Tried to manually update the keys (home, return , menu) and that didn't work. Tried to uncheck the use profile in advance settings and that didn't seem to hold - kept coming back as use profile checked? Decided to try force firmware update in advance and it indicated I had version 16.1 (sixteen.1) and a new version 3.5 was available, do i want to continue. Confused for sure. how is fw version 3.5 later than 16.1?? Decided to try the force FW version update and it keep saying firmware being updated, please wait but no indication of any progress after at least 1/2 hr. Ops just notices it said not responding in upper right corner in very small letters. Closed the gui and restarted it. Now firmware version is 2.3 ? and it says latest version is 3.5. Trying forced FW update again, still no indication of progress after 1/2 hr. (BTW W7 SP1 64bit). Not responding again. This time flric is disconnected and won't connect. I guess its toasted, can't do anything. This is bad news
Jerry. It's not toast. Please follow the directions here for the bootloader device:
https://flirc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/sections/200286467-Windows
The driver is missing for the bootloader
Thanks this worked. I'm now at v3.5 but wondering if I will have to use this for future updates? Also after update I could only add in the FIRETV return key with the GUI not the home and menu keys ( harmony remote) ? Didn't have much time to play with it.
